我觉得在和the way搭配时 区别不大 很多情况下能互换
就是to do 和doing之间的区别
to do不定式 表明一种倾向 一种打算 将要做的意思 含有一种"要"的意思在里面.
而doing则是客观的谈论的这个事情本身 通常事情已经发生了
特别是当事情已经做过了的时候用to do来表示 似乎有点不太好 当然只是个人感觉
我就觉得
finally,we found the way to solve the problem.
不如
finally,we found the way of solving the problem.

再举个例子:
to speak english well involves a lof of practice.要想说好英语就要好好练习.
speaking english well means that you can find a good job.英语说得好的话,就能找到份好的工作.
第二句中就没有"想要说好英语"的意思在里面.

这两个短语没有区别, 在使用的时候需要注意的就是介词了.
